A film project by David K. Ross, presented as part of Attaché at the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal, 2010

The opening frames of 396 x 534 x 762 show installation technicians placing eight shipping crates on an open raised platform located within a gallery at the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal. Gradually, workers arrive to frame, drywall, plaster, and paint walls that eventually surround the platform entirely, effectively sealing in the crates and blocking them from sight. As the final part of the structure is completed, the viewer realizes that the film projection surface* facing them is the very same wall whose construction they have just witnessed. With the vehicle of film acting as a temporal and spatial transgressor, 396 x 534 x 762 both prevents and provides access to the hidden crates.

*The proportions of this wall are exactly the same as the aspect ratio of the 16mm film that was used to document the wall's construction.
