The inexorable pull of forces outside our control—gravity or grief, electricity and synchronicity, memory, entropy, inertia—are at once scientific and psychologic, material and spiritual. Like researchers in life's lab, the artists of Remote Control produce work that harnesses, defers, or re-directs the gathering strength of these outside influences and concentrates them into visual experiments and ironic hypotheses. Donna Akrey, Leah Garnett, Robb Jamieson, Knowles Eddy Knowles, and Scott Davis present projects in which “remote control” is literally and metaphorically interpreted as a device and a presence of desire, a set of invisible forces asserting their silent and always suggestive power. |
